Buddha Nature quote
“…karuna is "boundless," its inferiority as compared to mahakaruna is related to their difference in essential nature: karuna's nature is essentially nondelusion, whereas that of mahakaruna is essentially nondelusion. The idea, evidently, is that anger may be eliminated while some delusion remains, but if delusion is uprooted, anger has no foundation and cannot arise. The idea of karuna as freedom from anger is consistent with the fourth distinction, in which karuna is associated with the fourth dhyana, which is characterized by freedom from emotion or, in other words, equanimity, and by mindfulness. The sixth distinction adds that karuna also involves freedom from desire. Thus it would seem that freedom from desire and freedom from anger go hand in hand and that the two are expressed positively in equanimity.” (P.130)
